Use Cases

The Image Converter & Compressor is great for converting PNG screenshots to WebP to reduce file size, converting camera photos in unknown or HEIC formats to universal JPEG, shrinking high-resolution phone photos for easy sharing, compressing images that exceed social platform or form upload limits, or saving storage space without sacrificing too much quality.

FAQ

No. All conversion and compression runs entirely in the browser — images are never uploaded to any server, making it safe for private or confidential content.

Converting changes the image format among JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Compressing keeps the original format and reduces file size only by adjusting quality and maximum edge length.

Currently JPEG/JPG, PNG, and WebP are supported for both reading and conversion. Other types (e.g., PDF, HEIC) are not currently supported.

For JPEG and WebP, lower quality and smaller dimensions mean smaller files but lower quality. PNG is a lossless format, so the browser cannot reduce its size via a quality parameter — only resizing (max edge length) is effective.

There's no hard limit, but larger files and higher resolutions require more memory and processing time. We recommend processing large files on a more powerful device.
